I Am Now

Freaking out!

Praying to God.

Dreaming up new gods to pray to.

Washing my hands.

Heck, I wash every part of me five times a day!

Yes, even there, five times!

I cough into my elbow

When I’m alone in my home

Where I’ve been for days

Without human contact

But I go to my elbow.

Okay, six, you know,

Just for fun.

I try to keep from pressing

That button

That button that brings the news

To life

Or death.

I am now letting out my pants

My fat pants

Because I ate everything I bought

For three months

In a week.

I am now as ever grateful

For the gift of life

Knowing, as I’ve always known

But now even more clearly

That it could end

Today.

I Have This Day

I Have This Life

I Have These Friends

I Have This Gratitude

For each and every one of you.
